Maoro da Rocha Pitta was born in Grenoble (France) and moved to Brasil as a child in 1974. He later came back to France to study cinematography and visual arts at the Unversity Paris 8 (Vincennes, Saint Denis), from which he graduated in 2002 as well as Anthropological Cinema at the University Paris 10 (Nanterre). For 10 years he was living in France. Now lives and works in São Paulo.

Mauro is a director of ducumentary films, first of all: Jurema (short film), about „reality“ of a certain bar in a port town; Orixás (documentary) – about a daily live of a community of a candomblé temple.

Currently Maoro is in charge of a film production company Hors Champ.
